Welcome to e-Start (project of the month! - December 2008, elearningeuropa)

e-START is a Network of key players for promoting Digital Literacy in Primary and Lower Secondary (K-9) education in Europe and beyond.  The mission of the e-START Network is to provide a universal communication base to support Digital Literacy Policies and Actions in compulsory education.

The objectives of the e-START network are:

  • To offer a sustainable, single-point-of-access, high-quality information service on Digital Literacy in Primary and Lower Secondary (K-9) education, which will enhance the Eurydice network and service, and inform as well as transform the School Education Policies in the EU Member States (with regard to Digital Literacy), towards closer collaboration, interoperability, harmonisation, and synergy amongst them, and ultimately towards higher overall quality.
  • To build consensus towards a common framework of ICT education in the National Curricula of Primary and Lower Secondary (K-9) education across Europe, which will help to achieve Digital Literacy for all and according to pupils’ individual needs.
  • To provide a discussion and policy advice/consultative forum on Teachers’ Training needs (both initial/pre-service and continuous/in-service) in order to meet the Digital Literacy Challenge.

The e-START community has moved to a new home at: www.educanext.org

This new home will be under the umbrella of the larger EducaNext family and will be a sustainable permanent and ever improving vehicle for the long-term activities of e-START community.

The new community service operates as a content management system and a social networking environment to manage resources and to facilitate network interactions.  The platform provides means for the e-START members to advertise, offer, and share their knowledge resources with educators outside the network of their institutions.

Membership in the e-START Community is free for all.

All existing e-START members are requested to migrate to the new e-START community space.  To register, please click on the "e-START registration" and follow the simple steps outlined there.

We envision that this new home will be a reference point for digital literacy in compulsory education.
